Devil's Food Cupcakes with peanut butter frosting

By now you know I love cupcakes. Hell, I named my website after them, of course I love cupcakes. If you follow my Facebook page, you know that we are PCSing in a few very short weeks. I'm happy to be going to a new duty station, we've been at this one for 4 years (his entire first enlistment) and I'm excited to start a new chapter in our lifelong adventure. But I will miss making cupcakes for his shop, I'm hoping his new shop accepts my wonderful treats so I can get my baking addiction taken care of occasionally.

New Name!

Well, in case you haven't noticed we have a new name and a new domain! Nothing else on the site has changed, I just decided to come up with a catchier name, something that encompassed aspects of my life. I'm not completely defined by being the wife of a Marine, it is a big part of my life that's true but it's not everything that I'm about. I am my own person, I do my own things. I love to read, I'm a huge nerd (Star Trek, Star Wars, Red Dwarf, Mr. Bean, Fawlty Towers, Monty Python...I could go on and on and on), I sincerely LOVE to bake (and I'm hoping you can tell that by the recipes I post on here!), I love crafting and sewing, and started both during my husband's deployments.

So the new name covers the main aspects of my life: baking cupcakes and surviving the military life. I came up with it last week while I was making a background for my phone, and I had a 'duh' moment as I asked myself why I had never thought of it before. Now, it seems quite obvious to me that Cupcakes and Combat Boots should have been the name from the start! So I quickly bought the .com and we're in business. The new URL of the site is www.cupcakesandcombatboots.com and you can email me at jennifer@cupcakesandcombatboots.com. Have a wonderful day :)

Cinnamon Roll Cupcakes

It's all about wowing the people in my husband's shop. It makes me feel good to get so many compliments about the yummy treats I make for them, and they've even started making requests. I even got paid to make Pizza Cupcakes, but that's another post! I saw these on-where else-Pinterest and since I love cinnamon rolls, I wanted to try it. I'll show you how I made them but I'll also include a link to the original recipe since I had to deviate from it to suit the supplies I had. Let's see 'em!

Cookies N' Cream Cupcakes

It's 8am right now, and I've been up since about 0530 :/ As a Marine, my husband has to get up before the sun to be off to work. Some days I can fall back asleep for a few hours, but most days I end up staying up and waiting until normal people are awake so I can start my day. If I could, I'd be cleaning, vacuuming and sewing at 6am to pass the time but I don't think my neighbors would particularly like that! So I'm sitting here in bed, fine tuning the look of my blog and realizing that I have a lot of recipes that I need to post on here! I've made several batches of cupcakes for my husband's shop and many yummy new dishes for my husband since he came home from his most recent deployment. This is one of them! He loves cookies and cream anything, so I told him about this Oreo cupcake recipe I'd found through Pinterest and he asked me to make it. Can't say no to him.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cupcakes with Chocolate Frosting

My favorite cookie is, of course, the chocolate chip cookie! I love chocolate chip cookie dough, too, so running across this recipe on Pinterest caught my eye. This was my second batch of cupcakes for my husband's shop and they turned out perfectly. The key to keeping the cookie dough dough-ey is freezing the balls for at least 2 hours before baking. By freezing it you're ensuring that the dough doesn't bake quickly and turn into a cookie.
When you bite into this cupcake, you want to get the cakey yumminess of the cupcake with the dough-ey goodness of the cookie dough. It's definitely a guilty pleasure cupcake and that's just all right with me! The cupcake batter made about 24 cupcakes but I had plenty of cookie dough leftover, so what did I do? Yep, baked it as a cookie for the garnish. And by the way, this cookie dough recipe is AMAZING! I love it better than the Nestle Tollhouse recipe.
