So.....do what now?

This is one of those times that I'm worrying more than normal, and I really hate that. I've never been the kind of person who can just come up with a solution to something then not worry about it anymore. I have to worry and worry until the situation is resolved or I go crazy...whichever comes first. So when I first got wind of the whole government shutdown thing, of course I panicked. We all did, and we all still are. There's still no resolution in sight to this problem, and it's a doosy. To think that in the event of a shutdown, our military wouldn't get paid...who the hell does that to their people?! AND they'd still have to report to work, still have to fight for a country that can't even agree on a budget so they can get paid!

I don't pretend to know anything about how the government works, I don't think anyone really knows how it works. It's just like that thing in the background that's running but we never really notice it until it's about to blow up...and apparently it's about to blow up. We're supposed to reach the debt ceiling of $14.2 trillion by May 16th, which means if there's no approved budget there's no money left. If there's no money left, the military and other government employees don't get paid. How did we get into this situation? The military is supposed to be one of the most secure jobs in today's world, and we're having to worry about how we're going to pay our rent and bills. How did that happen?

I'm hoping that the media is just making this situation seem worse than it really is, like they generally do. They love a good drama, and they love creating it. We don't have any control over this situation, and honestly we should be used to it. Being in the military or being married into the military, we know there are many things that are out of our control, that we can't do anything about. But that doesn't make things easier, when things aren't in our hands we don't know what the outcome is going to be. That being said, we just have to do what we do best and roll with the punches, prepare for the worst and hope for the best, adapt and overcome, all those military euphemisms that we learn throughout this life.
